With the Royal Clipper voyage being the primary focus, this took on the aura of a grand tour, so we decided to stay in a few "grand tour" type places. Particularly in Lisbon.
We chose the oldest hotel in the city, thinking it would be a bit of faded grandeur. After all it was built in the Belle Epoch, in 1892, by the same architect the designed the Rossie train station built next door.

A little old-fashioned maybe, but a fantastic stay. We had a room with a view of the castle, received a welcome gift of strawberries and champagne, and had a sumptuous breakfast every morning in a room filled with glass chandeliers. Just when we thought we'd had enough of too much eating at breakfast buffets on the ship, we get the Avenida Palace version, even better!

It's going to be very hard going home after this!
