Barbados' most famous daughter is uncontestably Rihanna, who turned a lot of her countrymen and women into fans of American football just so they could watch her perform the half time show. There is a Rihanna Drive and she does have a house in a very posh part of the island.
We were amused to see an umbrella, signed by her, in the Garrison museum. Now that's fame. Her song Umbrella no doubt inspired the exhibit.
As for the Island's most famous son, that is also pretty clearly Gary Sobers, or more formally Sir Garfield St. Aubrun Sobers, one of the best cricket players in history. Certainly the best "all-rounder" as he bowled, batted and fielded collectively better than anyone.
Other notables are Norma Miller the "Queen of Swing", sprinter Obadele Thompson, and novelist George Lamming. Not a bad variety of internationally recognized talents for this tiny island.
